Abstract: Yoga was developed about 5,000 years ago in India as a comprehensive system for wellbeing on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. There are considerable health benefits, including improved cognition, respiration, reduced cardiovascular risk, body mass index, blood pressure, and diabetes. Yoga also influences immunity and ameliorates joint disorders. Psychological benefits of yoga are immense. Research reviews suggest a number of areas where yoga may well be beneficial, but more research is required for virtually all of them to firmly establish such benefits.
