A Retrospective comparative study to determine the effectiveness of Arsenicum Album 200 C and 0/6 in the management of Acute Bronchitis

Abstract

Acute bronchitis is one of the most common paediatric illnesses and is commonly treated both in- and outpatient settings. This retrospective study was done to compare the effectiveness of Arsenicum Album in two different potencies 200C and 0/6. 10 diagnosed acute bronchitis cases treated with Arsenicum album 200 and Arsenicum album 0/6 in Pediatric Outpatient Department of Sarada Krishna Homoeopathic Medical College during the period of March and August of 2021 were taken for the study. Cases were divided into two groups. Group 1 included patients treated with Arsenicum album 200C and Group 2 included patients treated with Arsenicum album 0/6. Cases were analyzed for a period of 2 weeks before and after intervention for severity of cough, nature of the sputum, auscultatory findings, presence of fever, dyspnea, other associated symptoms and time taken for the improvement using Bronchitis Severity scoring criteria. Both groups showed significant differences in the severity score after treatment. However, severity score after treatment was comparatively less in group 2 treated with Arsenicum Album 0/6 potency. Statistical analysis also showed significance in group 2 treated with Arsenicum Album 0/6 potency. From this study it is understood that Arsenicum Album 0/6 potency is more effective in treating acute bronchitis when compared with Arsenicum Album 200C potency. However further researches in large sample is required for validation.
